| People Symphony, 2001-2002 A large-scale project led by musical director Eddie Parker involving 18 participating schools, across the London Boroughs of Hackney, Haringey, Greenwich and Lewisham. Each term culminated in live performances at major venues including the Ocean, Hackney, the Albany, Deptford and Millfield Theatre, Edmonton, with a final spectacular event at Ocean involving 400 participants.
Workshops and performances were led by a stellar line-up of modern jazz and world music performers. The workshops focussed on composition with influences from modern jazz, ambient chill-out and world music including Turkish, African and Brazilian music. Several new bands were created for this project, including Suno Suno, an exciting Indo-Jazz fusion group, Afuche, an all-star Brazilian Jazz line-up and When The Rains Come, a pan-African jazz fusion band.
