Groove On workshops are exciting, hands on and fun!
• We involve and value every child.
• Inclusive workshops that are accessible to all, regardless of ability, background or instrumental specialism. KS1, KS2 and SEN.
• A professional music experience! Live musical accompaniment and performance, original material and a composer on hand!
• Everyone gets a go on everything! Classroom instruments are provided - enough instruments for every individual child in a class - including a xylophone orchestra, and a range of drums and percussion. We also work with children with their own instruments within the class ensemble.
• Music core curriculum: development of rhythmic skills; rhythmic music and rhythms from around the world; singing, composition, improvisation and performance skills, listening and appraising.
• Creative curriculum - we relate music to other subject areas including work on creative writing, maths, geography, history, drama, dance, art.
• Non music specialist teachers gain confidence in music and insight into classroom management of music workshops.
• Led by acclaimed jazz musician, performer, composer and educator Eddie Parker and qualified and experienced teacher Elaine Furness.
• Large or small-scale productions, performances or workshops.
• Parental involvement is welcomed!
What teachers and children said about Groove On …
“The children have shown real improvement in their musical listening skills, coordination and knowledge of different styles of music. Being able to have their own instrument to play and experiment with has been an added bonus as all have participated at their own level. They were able to develop their own ideas and are now playing with confidence and skill.”
Anne Fisher, Head of KS2 St White’s Community School, Cinderford
“Thanks for all your superb work with LJS… it has had such a fantastic impact.”
Dave Smith Headteacher, Longlevens Junior School
“Thank you for leaving me totally inspired to teach music in a really groovy way. The children really had a ball.”
Emily Baker Year 5 Class Teacher, Longlevens Junior School
“Thank you for allowing the children to have so much fun in music and helping me overcome my fears”
Kathy Donaldson, Deputy Head Teacher, Longlevens Junior School
“It was inspiring to see how you progress every single child through to an excellent performance… parents were amazed. It has been great to work with such experience and for us all to have the opportunities to develop skills that we struggle with due to lack of resources (and in my case subject knowledge!). I know that all of us will take so much away from your week with us.”
Amanda Townsend, Class Teacher KS2, Randwick School
“As an experienced music teacher I found the workshops invaluable. In the past I was taught in a very traditional way with an emphasis on notation. When teaching composing, I now understand the importance of experimenting with lyrics, rhythms, melody and dynamics and my teaching in the classroom will have a completely different focus as a result.”
Liz Chirgwin, Headteacher, Bream C of E Primary School
“ I love it so muingch so that it made my day! Thank you for the music workshop, it was fabulous.” Hannah, Year 6 Ellwood School
“It has been a pleasure to be taught by you. Our Tuesday mornings were great because they were packed with fun and excitement.”
Alfie , Year 4 Longlevens Junior School
“It was amazing…I enjoyed it so much and really want to do it again”
Josh, Year 4 St John’s Primary Cheltenham
“I like music a lot more than I did before.”
Brianna, Year 4 St John's Primary Cheltenham
